WOMAD Cape Town 2026 Closes with a 30-Year Celebration of Buena Vista Social Club

WOMAD Cape Town 2026 comes to a vibrant close with a celebration of 30 years of Buena Vista Social Club and the enduring sounds of Cuba’s golden era of music.

The Hassan’adas Big Band takes audiences on a musical journey through the legendary Buena Vista Social Club repertoire and other Latin-inspired classics, blending them seamlessly with beloved South African hits, including a lively salsa-infused interpretation of Miriam Makeba’s iconic “Pata Pata.”

The result is a musical meeting point between Cuba, South Africa and the wider world, celebrating the way great music travels, evolves and finds new life across cultures and generations.

Arrive early at 13h30 to join salsa schools on the dance floor, accompanied by a Latin-inspired DJ set, before a special tribute to Cape Town hip-hop pioneers Prophets of da City

The concert opens with Barcelona’s Koko-Jean & The Tonics, bringing their distinctive latin soul, rhythm and blues energy to the stage.

WOMAD will also honour Canadian world music pioneer Randy Raine-Reusch with a Lifetime Achievement Award, recognising his extraordinary contribution to global music and cultural exchange.

A celebration of music that travelled the world, and found a new home in Cape Town.

WOMAD Cape Town 2026 Finale Sunday, 20 September | Artscape Theatre 13h30 — Free DJ & dance set | 15h00 — Concert
